Senior Race Team (U14+)

Senior Race Team Overview

  • MSRC’s Senior Race Team (SRT) Program (formerly U14+) includes the U14, U16, U18 & U21 age groups. From a training and racing perspective, these groups will train together and follow the same circuit of Atlantic race offerings. From a coaching perspective groups will be divided to best cater to the needs and race goals of the various age and experience levels of the athletes.
  • U14 Athletes will enter the “Train to Train” phase of Alpine Canada’s long term athlete development plan (https://ltad.alpinecanada.org/). Training focus in this phase focuses on refinement of fundamental technical skills, while introducing the tactical aspect of ski-racing. Athletes will be challenged to actively make decisions about their approach to their skiing and the racecourse. Speed races will also be introduced at this age, with athletes having the option to train and race Super G events.
  • U16 Athletes will continue through on the later stages of the “Train to Train” phase progressing towards the “Train to Race” phase which focuses more on the refinement of technical elements. Coaches will work with athletes to explore and refine tactical approaches to find maximum speed while maintaining the ability to stay within the race course.
  • U18+ will be fully focused on “Train to Race” phase of the LTAD plan.
  • Breaks are included in training times. We encourage athletes to attend as many sessions as possible. However, it is not mandatory for your athlete to attend all days in the schedule.
  • Senior Team travel events typically include:
    • Mont-Saint-Anne (Extended) Pre-Preseason camp + potentially one other on-snow camp.
    • Additional regional training sessions as and when determined beneficial by the MSRC coaching team
    • Crabbe Speed Week and associated Super-G and Giant Slalom races
    • Three or more additional regional race weekend events (recommendation for event(s) will be made by Coaches when the final race schedule is determined)

Additional information on our NEW 1-day program

A 1-day option at the SRT (U14+) level was historically offered by invitation only to former racers, and referred to as our Adjunct Racer Program. These 1-day options are for skiers with previous racing experience who wish to remain involved in ski racing while participating in other activities that may make 2- and 3-day options harder to fit in their schedules.
